Welcome to Our Scratch Coding Camp

Help your kids work their way through our Scratch Coding Camp badges below, and watch their skills develop from coding novices to coding camp enthusiasts. If your kids are new to Scratch, we recommend you check out https://scratch.mit.edu/, then help them with the first badge, Intro to Scratch, before they move on to the rest of the badges which are divided into three categories.  Whether your kids are new to Scratch or they’ve coded with Scratch before, there’s something here for everyone.

Do your kids like to track their progress during activities? If so, we offer a printable Camp Badges checklist in both portrait and landscape mode. It’s a fun way to encourage your kids to complete as many tutorials as possible.

We hope your kids enjoy their time here at our Scratch Coding Camp.

Our Getting to Know Scratch 3.0 badges are designed as introductory tutorials for our campers. If this is your kids’ first time coding, this is the perfect place to start their journey.

The badges in this section progress in difficulty from left to right. Our first badge, Intro to Scratch, is a must-read for beginners. It provides an in-depth look at the Scratch user interface, its paint editor, and the color-coded blocks your kids will connect like puzzle pieces to create scripts within their projects. Use our printable version of this information as reference material as your kids earn their Scratch Camp badges.

Our Let the Games Begin badges use game design to help take your kids’ coding skills to the next level.  Whether your kids want to design a game to solve puzzles, jump over dangerous objects, fly a spaceship, or defend a castle from enemy forces these lessons will help them design a game that will keep their friends coming back for more.

The complexity and level of difficulty of our game badges progress inward instead of from left to right. Starting from the left, our game tutorials concentrate more on the use of code in game development and less on the visual aspects. Starting from the right, our game tutorials concentrate more on the visual aspects and less on the coding. Our center badge represents our most complex and difficult tutorial for both coding and visual components.

Kids who enjoy coding in Scratch more than creating complex visual components can start with the left-most badge, while kids who prefer to work on game design with a stronger emphasis on visual attributes can start with the right-most badge.
